Jeep wrangler on a dirt road

Did you know there are 38 miles of dirt roads in Jackson County, IA?  According to the Jackson County Engineer there are!  Level B or dirt roads are fun roads to take your Jeep Wrangler down. What’s better than taking the top and doors off on a warm summer day and going for a drive?

It’s always exciting to discover new roads to travel.   Here are a few of these roads in Jackson County Iowa to check out for yourself! * Disclaimer: We do not know if any of these roads are private and maybe used as access for farm equipment, so do your research and drive/enter at your own discretion.  *

There are three dirt roads off Bernard Road in Jackson County IA.  The shortest is 146th Street.  The other two are longer and with a lot of turns.  92nd Avenue ends by Crabbtown, IA and 187th Street ends over by Ozark, IA.

Over by Monmouth, off 17th Avenue is 67th Street.  Part of the road is gravel, then turns to dirt.  It is a dead-end road that ends in a farmer’s field.

Heading east towards Baldwin there is  level B road off of US64.  It is 67th Avenue and the road ends at 80th street.  While you are in the area, make a stop over at Tabor Vineyard and Winery and pick up a great local wine. – Don’t drink and drive! –  Just past the winery there is a short dirt road where 67th street intersects with 32nd Avenue.

Another road I have seen mentioned in several forums and Facebook groups is located just outside of Sabula, IA.  It is 584Th Street.  Several people said it is very bumpy!

Over by the Maquoketa Caves, just off of 82nd Avenue is 98th Street.  (Seen in the photos)  It is a winding little dirt road.  Plan a day to hit the dirt road and do some hiking while your at it.  It is beautiful out there, and a great day in nature.  Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes and shoes.  Between the dirt roads and the muddy caves, you will need them!
