Brad Deery Ford – Iowa Review – 2020 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape continues to be among the best-selling vehicles in the Ford lineup. To ensure that this crossover remains such a great success story, Ford has fully redesigned it for the 2020 model year. Let us introduce you to a fourth-generation Escape that is more modern inside and out, delivers better power and acceleration than ever before and reintroduces the much-requested hybrid version. At your local Ford dealership in Iowa, we are thrilled to sell a vehicle that we genuinely believe is the best crossover on the market. Visit us for a test-drive, and read on to learn more about all the exciting changes.

Exterior – 2020 Ford Escape

The exterior style of the Ford Escape has been completely changed for the 2020 model year. While much of the competition has opted for greater complexity, Ford seeks to distinguish itself by going in a more streamlined direction. This new Escape is not only more modern but much sportier as well, which is certainly a trend as automakers distance their crossovers from larger SUVs. You may notice that the new Escape is a bit heavier, which is thanks to a new suspension that delivers a smoother ride. The base wheels are 17-inch aluminum, and upgraded sizes should be available too.

Interior – 2020 Ford Escape in Maquoketa

The interior of the 2020 Ford Escape is arguably the area that sees the greatest change. Ford has opted for a more modern style, a better grade of materials across the board, ample new tech and a design philosophy that has resulted in much more intuitive usability. Critics love the 12.3-inch fully customizable HUD that you can quickly quite with calm mode when all that data is not needed. The cabin is roomier both up front and in the back. Heated seats and steering wheel are available. The vehicle features a large touchscreen as well as smartphone support via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Mechanical – Ford Escape specs in Maquoketa

The Ford Escape is sold in both a front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configuration. FWD is standard, and AWD is an option at all trim levels, including the base S, except the Titanium, which is an AWD-focused model. This is also true of the SEL when opting for the Titanium engine, which we will discuss more in the next section. Payload and towing maximums have not been published as of this writing, but we are confident capabilities will at least match the current maximum tow capacity of 2000 pounds.

Powertrain – Ford Escape specs in Maquoketa IA

The base engine is completely new for the 2020 Ford Escape in Iowa. It is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder that Ford has mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination makes 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The SE Sport, on the other hand, employs an all-new hybrid. The engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission and makes 198 horsepower. If you opt for the plug-in model, horsepower is increased to 208. The top-of-the-line Titanium trim gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter i4. This engine, which is optional on the SEL as well, is mated to an eight-speed auto and makes 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet. Note that the Titanium Escape is all-wheel drive, and if you opt for the SEL with the 2.0L i4, it has to be all-wheel drive as well.

As soon as you step above the base S to the SE trim level, the Sync 3 infotainment system becomes standard equipment. An 8-inch touchscreen is the access point for this system, and Ford has opted for a freestanding touchscreen for the fourth generation. Ford is also introducing Ford Co-Pilot360 for the 2020 Ford Escape. This is a sophisticated suite of driver aids: a rearview camera, a blind-spot information system, pre-collision assistance, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and automatic high beams. There will also be a wide range of optional driver assistance features available at all trims, including adaptive cruise control with lane centering and stop-and-go technology.
