Brad Deery Ford – Iowa Review – 2020 Ford Super Duty

The 2020 Ford Super Duty series will continue and further refine the Super Duty third generation introduced for the 2017 model year. Fans of the series and pickups in general will be thrilled to learn that the 2020 model year brings with it more powerful engines and much better towing capacity as well. Ford has added a bunch more tech as standard equipment and as options, and almost all of these items will be available to fleet customers as well as individual consumers. Finally, Ford is introducing the Tremor trim, which delivers the best off-road performance for a Super Duty truck ever.

Exterior – 2020 Ford Super Duty

For the 2020 model year, the Ford Super Duty series gets an exterior refresh. This subtle redesign includes a number of modern flourishes that make the truck fresher and more modern. The exterior upgrades are not limited to cosmetics, however. The larger grille and revamped front bumper are both beautiful additions but have also been designed to move even more air over the engine. There is an even bigger version of this already huge grille, which Ford reserves for the dually models. Other notable redesigns include the headlamps, taillamps and the tailgate.

Interior – 2020 Ford Super Duty in Maquoketa

The cabin from the 2019 model year has been mostly carried over to the 2020 Ford Super Duty series, but what has changed is that the Limited cabin has become the base cabin, which is exciting. In order to set the premium Limited apart in 2020, Ford has added premium leather upholstery throughout and a faux-suede headliner and has accented the interior with wood trim made from black ash. The regular cab, extended cab and crew cab all remain options for the 2020 model year in Iowa. The Sync 3 system with an 8-inch color touchscreen are standard along with Wi-Fi hotspot and smartphone integration.

Mechanical – Ford Super Duty specs in Maquoketa

Note that final specifications have not yet been released by Ford, so everything you read here is subject to change until that formal announcement occurs. However, Ford has already announced certain mechanical aspects of the truck, such as its focus on making the 2020 Ford Super Duty a substantially better tower than this third generation has been thus far. The current Super Duty series has towing capacities up to 18.5K, 32K and 35K pounds for the F-250, F-350 and F-450 models respectively. That these trucks will further exceeds those already respectable milestones is very exciting indeed.

The 2020 Ford Super Duty series will have three engines available. The 6.2L V8 will carry over from the 2019 model year that along with a six-speed automatic transmission will serve as the base powertrain for the F-250. The F-350 will have that same engine standard but mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission that will be new for the 2020 model year. A revised version of the turbo-diesel 6.7L V8 that is currently available will serve as the standard engine for the F-450 and be optional for the F-250 and F-350. Ford is also introducing a beastly 7.3L gas V8, which will be optional on the F-250 and F-350. Precise performance numbers are not yet available but greatly exceed 2019 numbers according to Ford.

Safety – 2020 Ford Super Duty dealer

This generation of Ford Super Duty has scored well with both the IIHS and NHTSA, and that will continue with the 2020 Ford Super Duty as there are no fundamental changes. Although final specifications have not been released as of this writing, Ford has stated that most of its advanced driver assist features will become standard equipment at the XLT trim and above. XLT is the trim level directly above the base XL. This standard package will include blind-spot monitoring that extends to the trailer if applicable; a lane-departure warning system that provides coverage for any attached trailer; a forward collision detection system with pedestrian awareness and automatic emergency braking; and automatic high beams.
