2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Overview

With the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, General Motors promises to provide a strong contender among pickup sales this fall. The new model has three cab-types, two-bed lengths, and a towing capacity of up to 12,500 pounds. Buyers will immediately notice the extra space because a new platform and body architecture enabled designers to enlarge the cabin and extend the bed. Cargo volume is a generous 63 cubic feet. And, while the truck has increased in size, its aerodynamics and fuel economy has improved. GM added four inches to the wheelbase, and its powertrain options have been enhanced by a pair of V-8 engines. Every vehicle comes with a modern infotainment system, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Chevy has really upped its game.

Every vehicle has a larger bed that provides nearly seven inches of floor width. One of the most interesting improvements is an available power-operated tailgate, which enables owners to open and close the tailgate with the key fob or button inside the cab. The truck weighs less and is larger than its predecessor with a wheelbase 3.9 inches longer than the current model and increased overall length of 1.6 inches. Chevy stamped the bed as two pieces, reducing its weight and enabling engineers to increase bed space up to 23 percent. The new roll-formed, high-strength steel bed floor is one-and-a-half times stronger than the previous model and has 12 stationary tie-downs, double the strength of the previous ones.

For buyers wanting to stand out, body-color trim options give the truck visual flair. There are all-LED exterior lighting and 22-inch wheels. (Nine removable tie-downs are offered as an accessory.) Also, the Custom Trailboss yields a two-inch lift and Z71 Off-Road package, which includes a locking rear differential, skid plates, Rancho shocks, and 18-inch wheels in Goodyear DuraTrac tires. Chevy’s signature corner bumper steps are high enough for a work boot and long enough to allow a farther reach into the bed.

The new model offers eight different versions with plenty of features and equipment to choose from. The base “work truck” features 17-inch steel wheels, vinyl or cloth seats, and black exterior trim. The base truck comes with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and vintage grille design–instead of the brand’s classic bow tie, you can get the CHEVROLET block lettering. The LT brandishes a Chevrolet bow-tie badge up front, limited chrome exterior, LED headlights, and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The LT Trailboss includes off-road-ready equipment from the Custom Trailboss and the convenience items in the LT.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s Interior

A significant improvement in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (four-door crew cab) includes more legroom, extended from 40.9 inches to 43.8 inches, which greatly increases rear-seat comfort. Also, Chevy included two large storage bins in the rear seatbacks and storage space beneath the bottom of the rear seat. Having raised the roof means the front seats can move up and forward while keeping the front legroom. And while the base trucks have rear air conditioning ducts in the center console, the top-of-the-line models have dual-format USB charging/content delivery. Yes, for those buyers who prefer to live in the lap of luxury, Chevy offers the Silverado 1500 LTZ and High Country. The LTZ comes standard with luxury and convenience items, including leather seating surfaces and power-folding exterior mirrors. The High Country includes a two-tone grille, chrome running boards, and a standard power tailgate.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s Powertrain

Delphi’s Dynamic Skip Fire (DSF) technology makes its production debut in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 as Dynamic Fuel Management. Chevrolet offers six different powertrain combinations. Two new gasoline V-8 engines-a 5.3-liter unit and a 6.2-liter-deliver improved fuel efficiency with the same Dynamic Fuel Management system, reducing fuel flow to between one and seven cylinders as conditions allow. New to the lineup is a diesel turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six.

Buyers can choose between the truck’s 5.3-liter or 6.2-liter V8 engine. The 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp and 383 ft-lb of torque) comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp and 460 ft-lb of torque), a 10-speed automatic. In addition, for the first time in the history of this line, Chevy will offer a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s Mechanical

The newest model is lighter and more capable than its predecessor because the manufacturer used lighter material for the hood, doors, and tailgate. The roof, fenders, and bed are made of steel. According to Chevy, they were able to cut about 450 pounds from the truck when compared to its predecessor, including 88 pounds from the body and 88 from the frame. Underneath, it uses the Corvette’s composite transverse leaf-spring technology to save another 24 pounds. With a steeper windshield and roof spoiler, the 2019 Silverado shows a seven percent improvement in aerodynamic efficiency.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s Safety

The new roll-formed steel pickup box floor in the Silverado is stronger, lighter, and more durable than a traditional stamped steel bed. In the tow/haul mode, the transmission shifts adjust to reduce shift cycling when hauling heavy loads or driving up steep grades. And the trademarked feature called StabiliTrak® includes “Trailer Sway Control,” which automatically detects a swaying trailer and applies vehicle and trailer brakes (when equipped) to help realign and keep drivers safe. Lastly, Hill Start Assist holds the brakes for a brief period or until the driver accelerates, allowing extra time to switch from brake to accelerator without rolling backward.
